HYDROLYSIS:

A chemical process in which water combines with salt so that its pH change from 7 acid and base are formed is called hydrolysis,

NaCl + H2O ————>NaOH + HCl

CASE – 1:

It pH increases:

When water is combined with basic salt, strong base and weak acid are formed so that the pH of solution increases.

Na2CO3 + 2H2 ————>NaOH + H2CO3

CASE – 2:

If pH decreases:

When water is combined with acidic salt, strong acid and weak base are formed so that the pH of solution decreases.

NH4CL + H20 ————-> NH4OH + HCl

CASE – 3:

If negligible change produces in pH:

When water is reacted with neutral salt negligible change is produce in the pH of solution as strong acid and strong base are formed.

KCI + H20————-> KOH + HCl
