IHC issues notice to vice chancellor Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) registrar

ISLAMABAD: Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) has directed vice chancellor Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) Dr Masoom Yasinzai and its registrar Dr Shafiqur Rehman to appear before the court in person on January 29 while hearing a contempt of court petition filed by an associate professor, Dr Ishtiaq Ahmed.

Dr Ishtiaq, currently serving on deputation as QAU Fellow at Oxford University, had filed in September 2013 a petition before the IHC to preserve his right to seniority, which according to the petition, was in danger because of mala fide conduct of the QAU administration.

The matter is related to the petitioner’s appointment as tenured associate professor and his eligibility for professorship under Tenure Track System (TTS) while according to the petitioner the QAU administration has initiated process for the appointment of a junior to the said position. Dr Ishtiaq Ahmad is associate professor at QAU’s School of Politics and International Relations (SPIR).

It was on October 1, 2013, when the same court had directed the VC QAU “to pass some appropriate and speaking order with regard to the appointment of Dr Ishtiaq Ahmed as Tenured Associate Professor within one week on the receipt of instant order and till then the process for the selection of professor at School of Politics and International Relations (SPIR) may not commence.”

In his petition Dr Ishtiaq alleged that the QAU administration is not implementing the IHC judgment and by violating the stay order it has initiated process for the appointment without first ensuing his appointment as Tenured Associate Professor and eligibility for the post of TTS professor.
