Ionic Character of Covalent Compound

As we know there are some covalent bonds in which partial +ve and partial -ve poles are present called polar bonds. Due to these poles an electrostatic forces is appeared in covalent compounds with is similar as the ionic bond. This behavior of covalent compounds to have force like ionic compounds is called “ionic Character of covalent

compounds”.

Due to Ionic character the characteristics of polar molecules are different as compared to the non polar molecules e.g.

i. They have comparitivity high melting and boiling points as compared to non- polar compounds.

ii. They are soluble in other polar solvents.

iii. They have ten bond lengths as compared to non-polar molecules.

iv. They have greater bond energy as compared to non-polar molecules.

v. Polar molecules are more stable as compared to non polar molecules.
