“Need of more colleges”
I shall be thankful if you very kindly publish this letter in the columns of your esteemed daily.
Ours is a developing country and its development is not possible without education both academic and technical. It is regrettable to note that there is utter lack of educational facilities inKarachi.Karachiin the biggest city ofPakistan. In the last decade the population ofKarachihas increased considerably. The number of students arc also increasing every year. The existing colleges are unable to meet the requirement of the students. Every year thousands of students go without admission in the colleges after passing their S.S.C. examination.
Most of them arc too young for service. It is argued that majority of them are students of low merit so they do not get admission in the colleges. This is not wholly true. Provision should be made for the students of low merit so that they may turn useful citizen. Lack of educational facilities are causing great frustration among the younger generation. They should not be denied the right of getting higher education.
Many new areas have sprung up with population of lacs. All these areas have almost no colleges. Each of these areas requires at least two college both for boys and girls. Technical institutions should be established to accommodate the students of low merits.
It is urged that the government should take up the issue with all seriousness and devise ways and means to establish the required number of colleges inKarachiwithout causing further loss to the cause of education.
