ORDER OF REACTION:

The sum of exponents of concentration of reactants in the rate expression of a chemical reaction is called order of reaction e.g.

1. CaCO3 ———–> CaO +CO2

Order of reaction =   dx/dt K [CaCO3]

Order of reaction =   1 – 1st order of reaction

2. C + O2 ———–> CO2

dx/dt = K [C][O2]

Order of reaction = 1 + 1 = 2 – 2nd order of reaction

3. 2NO + O2 ———–> 2NO2

dx/dt = K [NO]²[O2]

Order of reaction = 2 + 1 = 3 – 3rd order of reaction
