Punjab University students, staff and teachers participated in rally

LAHORE:Thousands of Punjab University students, staff and teachers participated in a rally on Wednesday condemning the Nato attack that killed 24 Pakistani soldiers.The protesters gathered at the Institute of Business Administration in the morning and then marched behind Vice Chancellor Prof Mujahid Kamran though the campus. The enthusiastic participants shouted slogans and carried banners and placards condemning the “barbaric” attack, backing the armed forces and paying tribute to the fallen soldiers.Addressing the rally, Prof Kamran said the “unprovoked attack” should be considered an act of war. He said he had never seen the nation so angry.

Walk held for Prof Chishti’s release organised in Karachi University

KARACHI, Nov 29: A walk was organised in Karachi University on Tuesday to press for the early release of octogenarian former teacher of the microbiology department Prof Dr Syed Muhammad Khalil Chishti, who has been languishing in an Indian prison for a long time.

Carrying banners, a number of faculty members, former and current students of the varsity marched from the microbiology department, where Prof Khalil had taught up to 1972.

GC University Lahore has won KINNAIRD PARLIAMENTARY DEBATES

The Debating Society of the GC University Lahore has won the All Pakistan Parliamentary Debates 2011 hosted by the Kinnaird College Lahore. As many as 24 prestigious educational institutions from all over the Pakistan participated in the tournament. The GC University team comprising Ali Zafar, Zinnnia Mansoor and Ahsan Raza beat the Lahore School of Economics in the final while speaking on the topic “Pakistan’s political landscape is ready for change”. The team GCU supported the motion and effective proved that the socio-economic situation in the country has led the nation to rise for a meaningful political change. GCU Debating Society President Ali Zafar was declared the best speaker of the tournament.

King Edward Medical University Young Doctors Association (YDA demands full time vice chancellor

LAHORE: The Young Doctors Association (YDA) met Health Secretary Muhammad Jehanzeb Khan on Sunday and demanded the appointment of a permanent vice chancellor at King Edward Medical University (KEMU).
YDA officials briefed the health secretary on affairs at the university.
They also called for a King Edward Medical College, as the institution used to be known, with a principal within the university to improve undergraduate education. The institution was granted the status of a university in 2005.
The YDA officials said that the acting vice chancellor of the university simultaneously held four other offices: pro vice chancellor, director general/principal of the Punjab Institute of Preventive Opthalmology (PIPO), eye professor at Mayo Hospital and national coordinator for the prevention of blindness.
