As we know liquid has the ability to flow but different liquids flow with different rates; under similar condition. This behavior of liquid is clarified by term viscosity which can be defined as under.
“The resistance in the flow of liquid due to high inter molecular forces between molecules of liquids is called “VISCOSITY’
The unit of viscosity is poise or centipoises.
Liquid are consist of layer of molecules. As we know high inter molecular forces of attraction is present between molecules of liquid, therefore, every molecules is resisted by other linked molecules for motion so that an overall opposition creates against the flow of liquid termed as “VISCOSITY”.
FACTOR EFFECTING VISCOSITY: INTERMUSCULAR FORCES:
Greater the forces of attraction between molecules of liquid greater will be the opposition in the movement of molecules of liquid so that greater will be the viscosity and lesser will be flow.
By increasing the Temperature the KE as well as the motion of particles of liquid increases so that spaces between particles decreases as a result viscosity decreases while flow of liquid increases.
